Every brand has its first product, the one that sets the tone for everything that comes after. For American Saturdays, it was the Cornhole Set. Looking back, I can’t think of a more fitting way to launch the brand.
American Saturdays has always been about good times with friends and family. To me, Saturdays have always meant exactly that — outdoor gatherings, pool parties, backyard BBQs, or beach days. I loved those moments not just for the food or the music, but for the atmosphere they created. And no matter where the gathering was, there always seemed to be a cornhole board nearby. Cornhole is essential to those kinds of days. It’s easy, welcoming, and effortlessly fun. Anyone can join in, whether they’ve played before or not. It’s the kind of game where you can toss a beanbag with one hand and hold a drink in the other. It doesn’t interrupt the party—it ties it together.
That was the spark: if cornhole has always been part of the gathering, why not make a great one?
Rethinking the Look
The first thing we wanted to tackle was design. Traditional boards are basically sheets of plywood on legs with sharp corners, boxy edges, and a rough look that doesn’t exactly blend in with a backyard setup. They felt unfinished, like a woodwork project rather than something you’d be proud to leave out for guests.
We thought cornhole deserved better. So we gave it a facelift. Our boards are hand-sculpted with rounded corners and smooth edges, designed to feel polished and intentional. At the heart is a single-piece aluminum ring insert, inlaid with precision. It’s not just a hole in a board—it’s a detail that gives the set a refined, elevated feel.
Built to Last
Then came the durability challenge. Regulation cornhole boards are big (2 feet by 4 feet and weighing around 30 pounds each). They’re not the kind of thing you want to drag back and forth from the garage every time you play. Most people end up leaving them outside, which means one surprise rainstorm can warp the wood and ruin the set.
We solved that with marine-grade plywood, the same wood used to build boats and decks. It’s tough enough to handle water, weather, and weeks outdoors. Leave it outside for a weekend or even a month, and it’ll be just fine.
More Than a Game Piece
What we ended up with wasn’t just a game board, it was a statement piece. A cornhole set that looks at home in your backyard, feels premium in your hands, and lasts through seasons of good times. It wasn’t just the first product we made; it set the foundation for everything American Saturdays stands for: leisure, quality, and connection.
Because at the end of the day, cornhole is never just about tossing bags. It’s about the people around it, the conversations that happen mid-throw, the laughs when someone misses badly, and the quiet ease of being together. That’s what we wanted to capture, and that’s how American Saturdays began.
